An alternative is to use your own car to reach the nearby resorts of Punta Sabbioni or Treporti where a waterbus is available to bring you directly to Venice. Here you can choose the shortest route which departs Treporti or Punta Sabbioni to stop off at Lido (passing the mighty fort of S. Andrea masterpiece of military renaissance architecture built in 1543 by Sammicheli, and the old church of S. Nicolò made famous by the paintings of Canaletto and Guardi) and to finally reach the stop of S. Zaccaria a few minutes walk from St. Mark’s square. Alternatively again departing from Treporti you can reach Venice passing the celebrated islands of S. Francesco del Deserto, Burano (famous for its lacework), Torcello and Murano (famous for its artistic glass work). From here you can change waterbus and reach St. Mark’s square in a short time.
